Police on Saturday night arrested a man over a cocktail explosion in front of Bangladesh Election Commission office at Agargaon in Dhaka.

Sher-e Bangla Nagar police station inspector (investigation) Md Mehedi Hasan on Sunday morning said that three people on a motorcycle exploded a ‘cocktail-like object’ in front of the EC building after 11:00pm on Saturday.

A patrol team of police chased them and arrested a teenager, aged around 14, at the spot, he said.

The arrested had provided some important information during primary interrogation, the police official said, adding that a drive was launched to arrest the others who were involved in the incident.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police deputy commissioner for Tejgaon Division Md Ibne Mizan visited the spot on Saturday night and said, ‘There is nothing to be worried about. Detailed information will be available after investigation. It will be investigated whether it was a sabotage or someone is trying to create an unstable situation.’

No one was injured in the explosion and the security was strengthened in the area, police said.
