Northern University Bangladesh organised a freshers’ reception programme for the newly admitted students on its campus in Dhaka on Saturday.

NUB vice-chancellor Professor Md Mostafizur Rahman presided over the event while North South University VC and Grameen Bank chairman Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury graced the occasion as the chief guest, said a press release.

Among others, NUB board of trustees member Labiba Abdullah, registrar Commander (retired) Md Mustafa Shahid, deans of various faculties, heads of departments, faculty members and officials were present.

In his speech, Professor Abdul Hannan said that the present world was not like the past. ‘We live in a complex and challenging era. Today, computers, mobile phones, AI, and other technologies have become immensely powerful.’

‘Educational institutions alone no longer represent the sole source of knowledge, knowledge is now everywhere. Students must remain engaged in the pursuit of acquiring this knowledge,’ he said.

Referring to the students as the future leaders, he added that in the days to come, they would lead the nation. To provide effective leadership, they had to equip themselves with the necessary skills and competence.

He also urged students to understand the true essence of life and dedicate themselves to becoming responsible citizens.

Professor Mizanur Rahman, academic adviser of Northern University, addressed the newly admitted students, saying, ‘Today marks the beginning of your journey toward building a future career — a truly significant milestone.’

The event concluded with cultural performances by students, celebrating new beginnings and the vibrant spirit of youth at NUB.
