Leaders of eight Islamic parties, including the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and the Islami Andolan Bangladesh, on Saturday urged the government to ensure a level playing field for all political parties before the next general election.

They also demanded a referendum by November on the implementation of the July National Charter and the next election in a proportional representation system.


The leaders of the parties made the demands at separate rallies in all eight divisional cities across the country to press home their five-point demand, said separate press releases issued by Jamaat and Islami Andolan.

The Bangladesh Khelfat Majlish held a rally in front of Shapla Square in Dhaka in the afternoon.

Presided over by the party鈥檚 Dhaka south city unit president Sanaullah Amini, the rally was addressed, among others, by the party secretary general Jalaluddin Ahmad and central leaders Ataullah Amin and Tofazzal Hossain.

The rally was followed by a procession that ended at the north gate of Baitul Mokkaram National Mosque.聽 聽聽聽聽聽聽

The five demands of the eight parties include ensuring a level playing聽field for all political parties before the next general election, making the trials of the fascists visible,聽 and banning the Jatiya Party and the parties of the Awami League-led alliance.

The Khelfat Majlish party, the Nezame Islam Party, and the Jatiya Ganatantrik Party also held separate rallies in different divisional cities on Saturday.
