
Bangladesh Navy swimmer Samiul Islam Rafi continued his dominance in the pool as three new national records were set on the third day of the 34th National Swimming, Diving and Water Polo Championships at the National Swimming Complex on Wednesday.
Rafi took his gold tally to seven by triumphing in the men鈥檚 100-metre backstroke in 00:57:95 seconds, breaking his own previous record of 00:58:45 seconds in 2023.
Rafi earlier set four new national records in the men鈥檚 200m individual medley, men鈥檚 50m butterfly, men鈥檚 100m freestyle and men鈥檚 200m backstroke on Tuesday.
He also made two records in the men鈥檚 50m backstroke and shared another record in the men鈥檚 100m freestyle relay on Monday.
Bangladesh Army鈥檚 Tonmoy Mali made records in the men鈥檚 50-metre breaststroke by clocking 00:29:59 seconds to break the previous record of 00:29:90 seconds set by the same team鈥檚 Sukumar Rajbongshi in 2022.
Meanwhile, Navy鈥檚 Sonia Akter Tumpa, Ani Akhter, Juthi Akter and Rupa Khatun created a new national record in the women鈥檚 200m freestyle relay by clocking 09:50:01 seconds, breaking the previous record of 09:52:09 seconds made by Junayna Ahmed, Mahfuza Khatun, Sonia Khatun and Tumpa in 2019.
At the end of the third day, Navy continued their dominance in the medals table with 27 gold, 20 silver and 10 bronze.
Army were in second place with nine gold, 16 silver and 23 bronze medals, followed by Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan with three gold, three silver and six bronze medals.
