The Criminal Investigation Department on Monday arrested a couple for their alleged involvement in producing and promoting pornographic content through online platforms.
The arrestees are Md Azim, 28, of Chattogram, and Bristi, 28, of Manikganj, said CID special superintendent of police (media) Jasim Uddin Khan.
Addressing a press briefing at the media center of CID headquarters in Dhaka, Jasim said that the Legal Interception Cell and the Cyber Police Centre units of CID arrested the couple at a house in the Balaghata area in Bandarban鈥檚 Hajipara at about 3:30am.
CID seized various equipment, including mobile phones, SIM cards, cameras and tripods, used in creating pornographic content, he said.
He, referring to information extracted from them during primary interrogation, said that the couple use to produce the contents and upload those in several international pornographic websites.
He said that the arrestees also used to promote those contents through different online social media and communication platforms.
They used to advertise through a Telegram channel that they would pay money to the individual if he or she added new content creators, he mentioned.
According to CID, the couple published their first pornographic video in May 2024 and later published at least 112 videos.
Producing, selling and distributing pornography is a criminal and punishable offence in Bangladesh under the Pornography Control Act, 2012.
