Bangladesh failed to qualify for the forthcoming AFC U-17 Women’s Asian Cup 2026 after suffering a crushing 5-0 defeat to Chinese Taipei in their Group H final match of the Qualifiers at the Aqaba Stadium in Jordan on Friday.

Following a 1-1 draw against hosts Jordan in the first game. Bangladesh were in a must-win situation against Chinese Taipei in order to advance into the finals for the third time, following their qualification in 2017 and 2019.

However, Saiful Bari Titu’s charges failed to emulate Bangladesh’s senior women’s and Under-20 women’s teams’ success in their respective Asian Cup finals.

Chinese Taipei proved their guts to maintain the superiority by beating Bangladesh after a 6-1 win over Jordan in the first match.

Bangladesh went 1-0 down, conceding a goal from spot as forward Woo Cai-Xuan made no mistake in the sixth minute while midfielder Chung Yun-Chien (34th) doubled the margin before the break and forward Yang Yi-Ai (67th) added another goal for the winners.

Bangladesh conceded two more goals in the injury time, with captain Wu Yen-Yu and Fw Hsiao Yu-Hui scoring once each in the first and second minute of the injury time.

A total of 27 teams entered the single-leg format Qualifiers and the eight group winners - Philippines, Lebanon, Myanmar, Vietnam, Australia, Thailand, India, Chinese Taipei – confirmed their final spots from their respective groups.

The eight group champions will be joined by the four automatically qualified - North Korea, Japan, South Korea, and hosts China – to play the 10th edition of the tournament to be held from April 30 to May 17, 2026.
