South Korean ambassador to Bangladesh Park Young-sik on Thursday said that they would continue to work on enhancing bilateral cooperation with the next 50 years in sight as the two countries had already completed five decades of diplomatic ties.

The remarks from the ambassador of the Republic of Korea came while he was addressing a celebration of the Bangladesh Office of the Korea International Cooperation Agency, KOICA in short.

The KOICA organised the Korea Bangladesh Alumni Association (KBAA) Night 2025 in Dhaka city, marking three decades of friendship and partnership.

‘We have already completed 50 years of diplomatic relations with Bangladesh and now we would continue to work on how to enhance our cooperation in next 50 years,’ Park Young-sik said.

The diplomat also lauded the KOICA saying that it was significantly contributing to Bangladesh’s sustainable development.

The annual KBAA Night was attended by more than 200 participants, including its alumni, government officials, development partners, and representatives from KOICA projects, to commemorate the three decades of bilateral cooperation.

During the ceremony, KOICA country director Jihoon Kim in his opening remarks reaffirmed the organisation’s continued commitment to work hand-in-hand with Bangladesh to achieve inclusive and sustainable growth.

The event began with a video presentation titled ‘KOICA & Bangladesh—30 Years of Friendship’, showcasing the organisation’s contributions since its establishment in 1995.

Over the years, the KOICA has partnered with the Bangladesh government in the areas of public administration and governance, public health, transport modernisation, technical and vocational education and training, and information and communication technology innovations, according to a press release.

Since 1993, more than 2,600 Bangladeshi government officials participated in KOICA’s fellowship and training programmes, while over 1,700 Korean volunteers served in different institutions across Bangladesh, according to the release.
