
Shipping adviser M Sakhawat Hossain exchanged views with the staffs of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation at the conference room of the BIWTC in Dhaka on Sunday.
He held the meeting after visiting the head office of BIWTC, said a press release.
BIWTC chairperson Md Salim Ullah gave a presentation on the achievements of BIWTC in the past one year of assuming the responsibility of the adviser and the development work plan for the next four months.
Sakhawat gave instructions to implement pensions for officers and employees of BIWTC, provide subsidy for DSL payment, conduct elections for employee unions, construct BIWTC building at Fairlie House, appoint operators to provide heritage cruise tourism services to the traditional century-old paddle steamers, complete and deliver all ships built under the 35 vessel construction project by December 2025.
He also directed to resolve the complications of slipway construction for dockyard modernisation, launch ferry sea truck service between Kutubdia Island and Ghosherhat under Charfasson and Hazirhat under Dashmina, and conduct surveys to launch ferry services on new routes.
He also called on the BIWTC to launch a water ambulance service to provide emergency medical services to remote areas, especially the coastal people, by waterways.
The shipping adviser suggested completing the master plan by December for the implementation of the BIWTC master plan in the future.
Directors, general managers, deputy general managers, heads of various units, BIWTC Employees Union leaders and officials were present at the meeting.
Md Salim Ullah expressed his sincere gratitude and congratulations to the adviser for his kind attention to BIWTC and sought the kind cooperation of the adviser to make BIWTC a prosperous institution in the future.
