The Shahjalal University of Science and Technology administration on Saturday cancelled the suspension order against 25 students in the face of students’ threat to boycott academic activities until the suspension order was withdrawn.

The cancellation of the suspension order was disclosed in a notice signed by the university registrar that was circulated in the afternoon.

The notification said that the decision to cancel the expulsion order was taken based on discussions between the students and the heads of the departments and recommendations emerging from there.

The syndicate will be formally informed of the matter in its next meeting, the notice mentioned.

On September 25, the SUST syndicate in its 237th meeting suspended 13 students of statistics department and 12 students of economics department for different terms on charges of their alleged involvement in ragging incidents that occurred on the campus in November last year.

Protesting at the decision, students of the two departments started staging demonstrations from October 8, declaring boycott of classes and examinations from October 9.Â
