
The long awaited land earmarked to establish of the permanent campus of Sylhet Medical University was officially handed over to the university authorities on Saturday.
Sylhet deputy commissioner Md Sarower Alam handed over the documents of the acquired land at about noon to the university vice-chancellor Professor Md Ismail Patwary.
Officials concerned of the university authorities, senior officials of the district administration and local dignitaries were present at the time of the handover.聽
A total of 79.1175 acres of land had been acquired at Goalgaon and Hazrai Mouzas under Mollargaon union in Dhakshin Surma upazila, which is adjacent to the Sylhet-Sunamganj bypass road, for establishing permanent campus of the university.聽
The ownership and possession of the acquired land was officially handed over to the Sylhet Medical University authorities as per LA case No 09/2019-20, an official of the university said.
Sylhet Medical University, the fourth public medical university of the country, had started its journey in 2018 on a temporary campus in Chowhatta area in Sylhet city.
