Ganatantra Mancha, a combine of six political parties, on Thursday announced the names of the alliance’s candidates for 120 constituencies for the next general election, expected to be held in early February next year.
The coordinator of the combine and Bangladesh Rashtra Sanskar Andolan president, Hasnat Quaiyum, announced the names at a press conference at the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity in the capital.
He said that they would field candidates for all 300 seats in the next parliamentary elections and that the names of the candidates for the remaining constituencies would be announced later.
The names of candidates announced on Thursday include top leaders of the combine.
Of them, Nagarik Oikya president Mahmudur Rahman Manna was announced the combine’s candidate for the Bogura-2 constituency, Revolutionary Workers Party general secretary Saiful Huq for the Dhaka-8 constituency, Ganosamhati Andolan chief coordinator Zonayed Saki for the Bhramanbari-6 constituency, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD senior vice president Tania Rob for the Laxmipur-4 constituency, JSD general secretary Shahid Uddin Mahmod Shapon for the Feni-3 constituency, Rashtra Sanskar Andolan president Hasnat Quaiyum for the Kishoreganj-5 constituency and Bhashani Janashkti Party chairman Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Bablu was announced their candidate for the Jamalpur-5 constituency.
Quaiyum said that they were discussing with different political parties and some parties might be included in the alliance.
Rashtra Sanskar Andolan joint general secretary Didarul Alam Bhuiyan read out the names of the candidates.
Leaders of the combine, Nagarik Oikya president Mahmudur Rahman Manna, Revolutionary Workers Party general secretary Saiful Huq, Ganosamhati Andolan chief coordinator Zonayed Saki, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD general secretary Shahid Uddin Mahmod Shapon, Bhashani Janashakti Party chairman Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Bablu, among others, attended the press conference.
