Visual artist Trivedi Gupu captures the beauty and mysteriousness of nature, particularly the moon, in his solo painting exhibition titled ‘On the Horizon’, currently on display at Galleri Kaya in Uttara, Dhaka.
The 12-day exhibition, which opened on October 3, features 94 artworks created using a variety of mediums, including watercolours, charcoal, ink, pen, and mixed media on paper.
An associate professor in the oriental art department at Dhaka University, Gupu’s work explores the lives of farmers, dancers, women and the natural world. His pieces reflect landscapes filled with forests, hills, rivers, and boats, all under the quiet glow of the moonlight.
His abstract yet traditional compositions incorporate oriental and folk motifs, often rich with textures.
One mixed media artwork titled ‘Calf and Women’ portrays a woman caring for a calf beneath a tree, while another, ‘Moon and Fish’, offers a surreal depiction of fish swimming beneath a moonlit sky.
‘Nature-9’, another mixed media piece, presents a lush green landscape with a body of water, set against a hilly backdrop bathed in moonlight.
Gupu’s ‘Lines’ series features 13 drawings on paper, each depicting women in traditional attire and poses, inspired by folk and mythical themes.
The exhibition will end on October 14.
