
Cultural activists on Tuesday staged a demonstration in Dhaka condemning Israeli genocide in Gaza.
Drik organised the demonstration at the DrikPath Bhobon in Panthapath in the capital to demand the freedom of Palestine. Tuesday was the second anniversary of Israel鈥檚 assault on Gaza.
The event comprised music, recitation, and performances to stand in strong opposition to Zionism and express unwavering support for the Palestinian people.
The event began with chanting slogans for the freedom of the Palestinian people while the protesters posted their comments on the event banner in solidarity with the Global Sumud Flotilla.
Singer Farzana Wahid Shayan recited her own poem titled My Name Is Palestine and later performed Amr Ekta Dukkher Naam Filistine.
Poets Arup Rahee, Ferdous Ara Rumee, Soniya Hasan, Rummana Jannat, Munimah Mahreen, Jahid Jogot, Shoikot Amin, Syed Musa Reza, Faiza Ramim, Shaikh Shoyeb and Tahmid Chowdhury also read out their poems.
Besides musical troupe Samageet, singers Muiz Mahfuz and Suchi Marma performed at the event, while visual artists Suman Halder, Rifat Fatema Anisa and Zannatul Islam Bipa participated in the event by live-drawing.
Since October 7, 2023, the day when Israel began its assault on Gaza, more than 67,000 Palestinians, almost half of them women and children, have been killed, and over 169,000 others were injured in Gaza in Israeli attacks.
