Body of an elderly man was recovered from a canal under Companiganj in Noakhali on Saturday morning.
The deceased was Abdul Malek, 70, a resident of the Gangchil area under Ward 9 of Char Elahi union.
People of the area said that the body was spotted entangled in fishing net in the canal.
The police said that Malek went to cut grass near Sluice Canal 12 on Friday.
While returning with a sack of grass, he attempted to cross the canal. Since the tidal water prevailed there, he slipped and drowned subsequently as he was unable to swim.
Officer-in-charge of Companiganj police Gazi Muhammad Foujul Azim said that the police recovered the body upon receiving information from people of the area.
Legal procedures are being followed in connection with the incident, he added.
