
A Dhaka court on Friday granted a five-day remand to Rifatul Islam Pavel, joint general secretary of Juba Sanghati, a front organisation of Jatiya Party, Roshan Ershad, in a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Pavel was accused of being involved in a plot to overthrow the government.
Police produced him before the chief metropolitan magistrate鈥檚 court seeking a seven-day remand for proper investigation.
After hearing the case, metropolitan magistrate Jashtia Islam approved a five-day remand.
Earlier, Pavel was arrested by the detective branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police in the Gulshan area.
Sub-inspector Azizul Hakm of Ramna police station filed the case on September 14 under the Anti-Terrorism Act, alleging Pavel鈥檚 involvement in the alleged plot to overthrow the government.
