Edge Gallery is hosting the second edition of group art exhibition titled ‘9+ONE’ at its Gulshan venue in Dhaka.

The three-week exhibition, which opened on September 12, is themed ‘Inter Dimensional Journeys’ and features works by nine emerging artists, namely Ashim Halder Sagor, Faizur Rahman Firoz, Md Anisul Haque, Mukti Bhowmik, Nur Munjerin Rimjhim, Sadatuddin Ahmed Amil, Tariqul Islam Herok, Tulsi Rani Das and Zihan Karim.

Curated by SS Anmon, the exhibition presents 79 artworks created in various mediums, including painting, sketching, prints, experimental ceramics, and installations.

The participating artists explore modern and contemporary practices, as well as heritage and experimental techniques.

Some notable pieces include Ashim Halder Sagor’s ‘Ultimate Weapon 2’, which addresses global waste management tensions by depicting single-use plastics as part of a broader environmental crisis.

Faizur Rahman Firoz’s woodcut print, ‘Come Here My Boy’, illustrates a baby crawling towards a funeral bouquet amid a polluted, decaying planet.

Md Anisul Haque’s ‘Critical Time’, an installation made with porcelain, purple clay and stoneware, explores the delicate balance of existence, where fragility and resilience coexist.

Nur Munjerin Rimjhim’s acrylic on canvas, ‘Women and Society’, examines the gendered experiences and social realities of contemporary Bangladesh.

On September 25, the gallery hosted an art talk titled ‘Art, Artist, and Society’, where professors Anisuzzaman and Jamal Uddin Ahmed, artist Kuhu Plamondon, and exhibiting artists Ashim Halder Sagor, Nur Munjerin Rimjhim, and Faizur Rahman Firoz, discussed the intersections of art, society and creative expression.

The event was moderated by curator SS Anmon.

The first edition of ‘9+ONE’ featured 18 emerging artists from Bangladesh in 2023.

The current edition will conclude on Saturday.
