The government will honour the families of children killed during the July–August mass uprising in 2024, as part of World Children’s Day.

The day will be observed across Bangladesh on October 6.

Besides, Children’s Rights Week is being observed between September 29 and October 5, with the theme ‘Shishur Kotha Bolbo Aj, Shishur Jonnyo Korbo Kaj’, said a handout issued by the Press Institute of Bangladesh on Wednesday.

Alongside government initiatives, private organisations will also observe the Children’s Rights Week.

To mark the occasion, the women and children’s affairs ministry and the Bangladesh Shishu Academy will organise various programmes at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka.

Women and children’s affairs adviser Sharmin S Murshid will be the chief guest at the event, which will be presided over by the ministry’s senior secretary Mamtaz Ahmed.

Special speeches will be delivered by UNICEF representatives and child delegates, while the guardians of the martyred children will share their experiences.

Documentaries on children will also be screened during the programme.

On October 7, 2024, women and children’s affairs adviser Sharmin S Murshid told the media that at least 105 children were killed during the uprising that ousted the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League regime on August 5, 2024.
