Grandmaster Niaz Murshed of Bangladesh Ansar team secured his seventh National Chess Championship title after emerging champion in the 49th edition of the event, which concluded at the Youth Tower auditorium in Mirpur, Dhaka, on Wednesday.

Niaz earned 10.5 points out of 13 games after beating FIDE Master Subrota Biswas in just 25th moves in the 13th and final round of the championship. He earlier won the championship in 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 2012, and 2019. 


International Master Mohammad Fahad Rahman of Bangladesh Ansar finished runner-up with 9.5 points from 13 games after losing to Mohammed Shaker Ullah of Cox’s Bazar in the final round. 

Bangladesh Army’s FIDE Master Sakline Mostafa Sajid placed third with 8.5 points, while the previous edition’s champion, International Master Manon Reja Neer of the Bangladesh Navy, finished fourth place with eight points. Ansar ‘

Ansar’s FIDE Master Tahsin Tajwar Zia placed fifth with 7.5 points, while Navy’s FIDE Master Khandaker Aminul Islam placed sixth with seven points.

In the final round, Mostafa Sajid beat FM Mohammad Javed while Manon played a draw against IM Minhaz Uddin. Zia drew against Anata Choudhury and Aminul drew with IM Abu Sufian Shakil.
