
Different socio-political organisations on Monday continued to protest against the rape of a Marma girl in Khagrachari and violence that killed at least three national minority people there.
The organisations also demanded proper investigations into the incidents and justice for the victims.
Three national minority community people were killed and several dozens, including security personnel, were injured and at least 100 shops, houses, and even vehicles, most of which belong to the national minority people, were set on fire as violence erupted in Khagrachari on Sunday amid a road blockade there protesting at the rape of a 12-year-old Marma girl.
In a press statement issued on Monday, Ain o Salish Kendra expressed grave concern over the incidents.
The organisation also demanded a judicial probe for taking steps against the perpetrators of the rape and ensuring security and  compensation for the victim girl and her family.
The statement said that often this type of incidents was taking place in the hill areas as proper probes were not being held and real reasons for such incidents were not being identified earlier.
In a press release, the Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust protested at the incidents and demanded immediate, neutral and proper probe into those.
The body also demanded treatment and security for the victim and compensation for people injured in the violence.
It also urged the authorities concerned to take effective initiatives to stop reoccurrence of this type of violent incident.
In a statement, Naripakkho condemned the rape incident.
The women’s rights organisation said that minority women in hill districts were becoming victims of rape and sexual violence often but they did not get justice.
Expressing solidarity with all minority people, Naripokkho demanded an active role of the government to ensure the rights, dignity and security of the minority people and free the hill people from ‘the military rule’.
On Monday, Adivasi Chhatra Janata held a protest procession at Rowangchhari in Bandarban, protesting against the attack on minority people in Khagrachari.
Protesting against the attack on minority people and the rape incident, the Left Democratic Alliance and the Antifascism Left Alliance will jointly hold a protest rally in front of the National Press Club in the capital Dhaka at 4:00pm today.
