Leaders of the 12-Party Alliance and the Left Democratic Alliance on Sunday demanded the legal basis of the July Charter to uphold the spirit of the July uprising.
They made the demand in a meeting among the alliance, the LDA and other political parties at a hotel in the capital.
They said that the next general election should be held in the first half of February for the democratic transition in the country.
The leaders of the LDA, a combine of six left political parties, opined that holding a referendum on the general election day could create complexities.
They said that the proposals for reforms of the constitution could be passed in the first session of the parliament.
On behalf of the 12-Party Alliance, its coordinator and Jatiya Dal chairman Ehsanul Huda and Liberal Democratic Party faction chairman Shahadat Hossain Selim addressed the meeting.
Communist Party of Bangladesh central leader Ruhin Hossain Prince, Bangladesh Jasod general secretary Nazmul Haque Prodhan, Socialist Party of Bangladesh general secretary Bazlur Rashid Firoz, Gonoforum general secretary Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, among others, attended the meeting.
