The International Crimes Tribunal-1 on Sunday reviewed 15 video recordings documenting violent crackdowns and human rights violations that took place across Bangladesh during the July 2024 uprising.

The footage includes scenes from seven of the worst-affected areas: Jatrabari, Savar, Ashulia, Chankharpool, Rampura, Farmgate, and Rangpur.

The tribunal also examined three additional videos, one of which featured a controversial press conference by then prime minister Sheikh Hasina, where she referred to the protesters as ‘children of razakars.’

The footage further showed late-night student-led demonstrations, including at Dhaka University, condemning her remarks and demanding justice.

The three-member bench of ICT-1, led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder, admitted the audiovisual evidence as part of the crimes against humanity case currently underway against deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan, and former inspector general of police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun.

The case centers on their alleged superior command responsibility for the widespread state-led violence during the July uprising.

Investigation officer Md Alongir Hossain, while opening his deposition, presented a total of 18 videos before the tribunal. His testimony is part of a broader investigation involving 54 witnesses.
