Leaders of the 12-Party Alliance and some other parties on Saturday reached consensus to pass the July Charter for the implementation of the spirit of the July student-people uprising.
The leaders in a meeting at a city hotel reached the agreemant that a referendum could be held simultaneously with the national polls to ensure the legal status for the July Charter.
They also viewed that the president could seek opinions from the Supreme Court according to section 106 of the constitution for implementing reforms of the constitution.
The leaders called on the political parties to reach in national unity for implementing the July Charter.
The spokesperson for the 12-Party Alliance and the chair of the Liberal Democratic Party faction Shahadat Hossain Selim, coordinator of the alliance Syed Ehsanul Huda, convener of Samamana Jote Fariduzzaman Farhad, general secretary of Gono Ohikar Parishad Rashed Khan, president of Am Janata Party Mia Moshuzzaman, NDM secretary Mominul Amin, Jatiya Party faction secretary general Ahsan Habib Linkon and others attended the meeting.
