One person was killed and two others went missing as a boat capsized in the River Padma in Premtoli area under Godagari upazila of Rajshahi on Saturday morning.
The deceased was identified as Jiten Mondal, 60, of village Kathalbari. The missing are 鈥� Dilip, 32, of village Faradpur village, and Horen Saha, 65, of village Dumuria.
Fire Service divers along with locals launched a search and rescue operation after the accident, which took place at about 10:00am, police and witnesses said.
Local people said that earlier in the morning, an elderly man, Kanai Karmakar, 70, of Premtoli Palpara area died.
His relatives took the body to a char in the river for burial. The boat, after dropping the body there, returned to pick up more relatives. About 20鈥�25 people boarded the vessel, but it capsized in the mid-river due to strong current, they said.
Most of the passengers managed to swim ashore, but three went missing.
Later, local people rescued Jiten Mondal and rushed him to Premtoli Upazila Health Complex where on-duty doctors declared him dead.
Premtoli police investigation centre in-charge Maksudur Rahman said that efforts were underway to trace the missing ones.
