
One more victim of Monday’s chemical warehouse fire at Tongi in Gazipur died in Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Friday, raising the death toll in the fire to three.
The latest deceased, Al Amin Babu, 22, an employee of a shop at Sahara Market in Tongi, is a son of Ratan Hawladar of Rowmari in Kurigram.
He died at about 11:00am while undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit at the Burn Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said the hospital police outpost in-charge inspector Md Faruque.
Doctors said that he had sustained 95 per cent burns in his body.
Earlier, two firefighters, Shamim Ahmed and Nurul Huda, succumbed to their injuries.
Babu’s co-worker Anwar Hossain said that both of them worked at Laxmi Hardware and Paint Shop, which maintained a warehouse in the affected market.
‘We, after hearing about the fire, went there to save some goods. Al Amin got trapped in the fire and burnt,’ he recalled.
The fire broke out at the chemical warehouse beside Sahara Super Market in Tongi on Monday. Four firefighters and three workers were injured while attempting to douse the blaze.
