International Day for Universal Access to Information will be observed on Sunday with the theme ‘Ensuring access to environmental information in the digital age’.

Like every year, the day would be observed through various programmes to raise public awareness about the right to information, said an official handout on Friday.


To mark the day, the Information Commission and different institutions have taken various programmes across the country, including Dhaka.

A discussion meeting will be held at the auditorium of the Information Commission Bangladesh at 3:00pm as part of the central event. Information and broadcasting adviser Md Mahfuj Alam will join it as the chief guest.

Information and broadcasting secretary Mahbuba Farjana will attend as special guest while executive director of Transparency International

Bangladesh Iftekharuzzaman and additional secretary of the ministry of environment, forest and climate change Fahmida Khanam will be present as the discussants.

Separate discussions will be held at the district-level.

Besides, following the theme of the day, programmes such as promotional activities through SMS on mobile phones, promotion of various documentaries on the people’s right to information on digital scrolls and digital advertising boards, promotion of festoons on websites have been taken.

A request has been made to all electronic media, including government and private television channels, to broadcast the message of the day’s theme on their scrolls on Friday and Saturday.
