A human chain was formed in Noakhali on Thursday demanding justice over the incident of attacking and beating an expatriate allegedly for refusing to pay extortion in the Dhanshiri area under Kabirhat in the district on September 19.

The victim, his relatives and people of the area formed the human chain on the Sonapur-Bashirhat Highway in front of Kabirhat police station.


Several victims alleged that a local Bangladesh Nationalist Party leader Aladuddin and his associates, including Mahin Uddin and Abul Kasem, demanded Tk 3 lakh in extortion from an Oman expatriate Shahidullah.

When Shahidullah refused to pay, the BNP leaders and their associates brutally attacked him.

They also further alleged that the perpetrators even demanded extortion from people of the area on several occasions.

If the people of the area refuse to pay, the perpetrators not only beat them but also issue death threats, they alleged, demanding exemplary punishment from the administration for those involved in the extortion.

A written complaint was submitted with the Kabirhat police station in this regard. .

Kabirhat police station officer-in-charge Shaheen Mia said that the police had received a written complaint from the victim and legal action would be taken after an investigation.

Alauddin could not be reached for comment despite efforts.
