National Citizen Party member secretary Akhtar Hossen filed a case against Awami League leaders, activists, and supporters over an attack on him in New York, USA.
He lodged the complaint with the Port Authority Police Department near the John F Kennedy Airport at 1:00am local time on Wednesday night, which was 11:00am in Bangladesh on Thursday.
In a video message sent to the media on Thursday, the NCP confirmed this information.
The complainant named two identified suspects and a list of 15 to 20 others as unidentified suspects.
According to Akhtar Hossen, those involved attempted various forms of harassment at the airport lobby and elsewhere after the attack at the JFK Airport.
In a video message, Akhtar Hossen said that after the initial airport attack, AL members had returned to the hotel lobby intending to carry out another assault.
He said that NCP members and his supporters in the US confronted them and contacted the police, adding that a police investigation officer later advised them to file a case, following which he went to the nearest police station.
‘We have informed the US authorities that the individuals responsible are connected to a banned organisation in Bangladesh, which carried out mass killing and crimes against humanity last year. We have provided the UN [a]report on these matters,’ Akhter said in the video.
‘We believe that Awami terrorists, whether operating inside or outside Bangladesh, will be held legally accountable, and we are committed to pursuing legal remedies for all their crimes,’ he said.
The Awami League will no longer have the opportunity to operate with impunity over their acts of terror in Bangladesh, he further said.
The incident occurred on September 22, when eggs were repeatedly hurled on Akhtar Hossen by AL activists and supporters while he was exiting Terminal 4 of the JFK Airport.
Akhtar was in New York as part of the delegation accompanying chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus to attend the 80th United Nations General Assembly session.
