Bangladesh University of Professionals held the closing ceremony of the disaster management exercise at the Bijay Auditorium of the BUP in Dhaka on Thursday.

The event titled Earthquake in Bangladesh: Strengthening Urban Preparedness was organised by the BUP鈥檚 department of disaster management and resilience, said a press release.


The two-day exercise was designed to raise awareness about how to strengthen urban preparedness against earthquakes through proper use of structural and non-structural methods, improvement of early warning systems and disaster preparedness planning.

Eighteen teams from seven universities actively participated in the sessions, which included panel discussions, poster exhibitions and a table-top exercise aimed at generating new ideas and solutions related to strengthening urban preparedness.

Major General Md Mahbub-ul Alam, vice-chancellor of BUP, was present as chief guest at the closing ceremony.

He emphasised on the importance of disaster management education in building a resilient nation and highlighted the role of universities in preparing future leaders to address such challenges.

Certificates and prizes were awarded to the winning teams in recognition to their ideas and presentations.
