The Indian Border Security Force pushed 19 more people into Bangladesh through the Chanshikari border point of Bholahat in Chapainawabganj early Wednesday.

With the latest push-ins, the number of people, including Rohingyas and Indian nationals, pushed into Bangladesh by India since May 7 has increased to 2,361.

Of the 2,361 people, 193 are Rohingyas, Border Guard Bangladesh officials said and added that 50 of these Rohingyas are registered with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in India.

BGB-59 battalion commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Golam Kibria said that the BSF pushed the 19 people, including three children and six women,  through an area adjacent to international border pillar number 119/4.

‘Preliminary information suggests that all of them are Bangladeshis. They had served jail terms in various prisons for entering India illegally before being pushed into Bangladesh,’ he said.

He said that the detainees were handed over to the local police for further action.

Sujauddoula, sub-inspector of Bholahat police station, said that they were verifying the identities of the detained people to send them to their families.
