The arrested have been identified as Sohel Rana alias Milan, 33, Tayyab, 46, Md Sajib Munshi, 44, Shamim Ahmed, 45, Md Mawlazi Ali Khan, 52, and Sohel Rana Jinnah, 37, said a RAB press release issued on Tuesday.

Acting on a tip-off, an intelligence team of the RAB-4 arrested the six, including the ringleader of the fraud gang, during an operation at Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka, on Monday.

RAB said that during the arrests, a victim was found whom the arrestees had brought promising him a job in the army.

The law enforcing agency conducted the raid after it received a complaint that a man named Sohel Rana, impersonating a military major, took Tk聽5 lakh from a person by promising him that he would give the person鈥檚 younger brother a job in the Ansar.

A private car, seven mobile phones and Tk聽95,200 in cash were seized from their possessions during the operations, the release said.

RAB said that the arrestees were members of the gang involved in fraud in the name of providing jobs in various government institutions, including law enforcement agencies.

There are several cases against the arrestees and they were earlier arrested twice by RAB on similar charges, added the RAB press release.
