A citizen rights committee on Monday at a press conference demanded immediate measures for the recovery of the Bangladeshi fishermen who had allegedly been abducted by the Boarder Security Force of India and Myanmar rebel group Arakan Army.
Leaders of Rail-Nou Jogajog O Paribesh Unnayan Gonocommittee (people鈥檚 committee for rail-waterway communications and environment development) raised the demand at the press conference it held at Rastra Sanskar Andolan鈥檚 central office on Topkhana Road.
Committee leader Nahid Hasan told journalists that on November 4 in 2024, the聽BSF abducted seven Bangladeshi fishermen when they mistakenly entered the Indian waters in Jingiram River at Chilmari in Kurigram district.
Nahid also called on the interim government to recover 40 fishermen whom the Arakan Army abducted from Cox鈥檚 Bazar near St Martins on September 11.
He further urged the government to recover 81 Cox鈥檚 Bazar fishermen who had also been allegedly abducted earlier.
Central leader of the committee Khandaker Arif along with the abducted fishermen鈥檚 family members Jarina Begum and Kajali Begum were present, among others, at the press conference.
