Vice-chancellor of Bangladesh Medical University Professor Dr Md Shahinul Alam at a programme at the BMU in Dhaka on Monday said that evidence-based medicine practice would not only reduce medical costs, but also play a role in reducing patient mortality.
He made the remarks at the certificate distribution ceremony of the training on evidence-based medicine provided by the BMU Institutional Quality Assurance Cell, said a press release.
BMU pro-VC for research and development Professor Dr Md Mujibur Rahman Hawlader was present as special guest at the programme, which was chaired by IQAC director Professor Dr Nurun Nahar Khanam.
‘If the medical community is encouraged to practice evidence-based medicine, patients will not only save money, but also there will not be much difference in the prescription of medicines and investigations of different doctors for the same patient,’ the VC added.
The training was attended by 29 teachers and doctors from different departments of the university.
In addition, Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College Hospital registrar Dr Maria Mahtab and Dhaka Medical College Hospital resident surgeon Dr Mir Rashekh Alam Abhi participated in the workshop.
So far, 170 teachers and doctors from 34 departments of Bangladesh Medical University have been trained on evidence-based medicine.
