
Incessant raining from early hours on Monday caused severe waterlogging in different areas of Dhaka.
According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, between 6:00am and 9:00am on Monday 71 mm rainfall was recorded which was the highest amount of rainfall recorded in this month.Â
Amid waterlogging the school going students and office going people suffered immensely on roads.
Since early Monday raining started with lightning strikes.
The amount of raining increased in the morning.
Bangladesh Meteorological Department’s meteorologist Hafizur Rahman told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· at about 9:30am that between 12:00am and 6:00am on Monday the met office recorded 34mm rainfall in Dhaka.
‘The 71mm rainfall in three hours in the morning is the highest amount of rainfall we have recorded this month,’ he said.
He further said that the raining was normal as this is rainy season and added that within Monday afternoon the raining would decrease.
Meanwhile due to raining since night, waterlogging was seen at different areas including Green Road, Dhanmondi, Jigatola, Karwan Bazar, Khilgaon, Mouchak, Moghbazar, Malibagh, and New Market in the morning.
Shahana Islam, a parent, said that huge water congested at Dhanmondi road no 7/A and 9/A near her house.
When she took her son to school in Green Road area that road was also under knee deep water, she added.
Dewan Jerin Sultana, a resident of Khilgaon area, said that most part of the area went under water.
‘Waterlogging is also in Mouchak and Moghbazar areas,’ she added.
Office goers also said that water logging was also seen at Karwan Bazar and its adjacent areas.
‘I could not go to my office in Karwan Bazar area as a pipe has been set up in front of the office to remove water,’ said Joyashree Lata.
The number of vehicles was fewer on roads on Monday morning.
