The police on Saturday arrested five individuals in connection with the killing of a man, who was hacked allegedly by his rivals in the capital’s Adabar area on September 16 over control of drug peddling.

The arrested are Belcha Monir, 26, a listed crime suspect, Rakib Howlader, 22, Md Golam Rabbani, 23, Monir Hossain, 30, and Md Akash Kha, 22, according to the police.


A team of the Detective Branch arrested them at about 4:00am on Saturday after conducting a series of raids in Dhaka city and surrounding areas, said a press release issued by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

Three ‘Samurai’ swords, a Chinese axe, and a switchgear knife used in the murder were recovered from them, said the press release.

During the preliminary interrogation, the arrestees confessed to their involvement in the murder.

The operation to arrest others involved in the murder was ongoing, added the release.

At about 4:30am on September 16, the arrestees hacked Ripon Mia over previous enmity and rivalry for establishing dominance in the area, according to the DB Tejgaon.

Ripon was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he died undergoing treatment on the same day.

Later on the day, Ripon’s wife Arju Begum filed a murder case with the Adabar police.
