The investigation of the Dhaka North City Corporation’s purchase of 3,000 kilograms of larvicide for Tk 6.32 crore has made no progress even in 10 months.

The committee tasked with the investigation of the purchase for an amount 10 times the estimated market value of Tk 63.41 lakh was given 10 working days to do the job, but it has so far met only once.

On November 21, 2024,

The north city authorities on November 21, 2024 formed the three-member committee, led by the then secretary Masud Alam Siddique, with the corporation’s additional chief engineer Mohammad Arifur Rahman and deputy chief health officer Emdadul Hoque as members,

‘We met once. The committee head was then transferred. And, nothing moved after that,’ said Md Emdadul Hoque.

The North City Corporation’s secretary and chief executive officer (additional charge) Mohammad Mamun-Ul-Hassan said on Thursday, ‘I am not aware of the matter.’

Masud Alam in a letter dated January 5 asked the authorities concerned to provide necessary documents for the investigation.

But, he was made an officer on special duty on February 19 for having worked as a returning officer in the controversial 2018 national elections.

The newspaper report said that Genetica Industries Limited, which won the contract, had no valid import licence for larvicide at the time of the tender. The company received its licence on May 5, 2024.

The report also alleged that three firms, Madina Indenting, JESCO Solution, and Cherry Incorporation, acted as shell companies in the bidding process apparently to facilitate Genetica’s bid.
