Authorities imposed Section 144 in the Pather Bazar area of Dighalia upazila in Khulna from 5:00pm to 10:00pm on Friday, following announcements of rallies by two opposing factions of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, scheduled at the same venue.
Ariful Islam, upazila nirbahi officer of Dighalia, confirmed that the emergency measure was taken to prevent potential clashes between the groups.
He said that police and navy personnel were deployed and were then patrolling the area to maintain law and order.
鈥楽o far, no untoward incidents have been reported,鈥� he said Friday night.
