He Holy See is not ready to declare Israel鈥檚 campaign in Gaza genocide, Pope Leo XIV said in an interview given in July but published Thursday. 鈥楾he word genocide is being thrown around more and more,鈥� the pope said in an interview with US journalist Elise Ann Allen for the book 鈥楶ope Leo XIV: Global Citizen, Missionary of the 21st Century鈥�. 鈥極fficially, the Holy See does not believe that we can make any declaration at this time about that. 鈥楾here鈥檚 a very technical definition about what genocide might be, but more and more people are raising the issue.鈥� UN investigators on Tuesday accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza in a bid to 鈥榙estroy the Palestinians鈥�, accusing Israel鈥檚 prime minister and other top officials of incitement.
