India’s Border Security Force on Wednesday arrested a Bangladeshi youth at Baraipara border at Tongbhanga union of Hatibandha upazila of Lalmonirhat.
The arrested is identified as Avinash Roy, a resident of Baraipara village at the union.
According to Border Guard Bangladesh officials, Avinash was collecting grass for his cows while working on his father’s land near a border pillar.
Shingimari Camp commander Mohammad Mansur Rahman said that the incident took place at about 3:00pm.
‘The BGB has contacted the BSF, calling for a flag meeting. The BSF said that the youth was handed over to police as per Indian law,’ he said.
Following the incident, many families in the border area are suffering from insecurity and have expressed fear that such incidents may happen again in the future as they have land in the border area.
Hatibandha police station officer-in-charge Mahmudunnabi said that measures were being taken to bring back the youth who was detained by the BSF.
