The National Board of Revenue intelligence cell seized two lockers belonging to the ousted prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, at Agrani Bank on Wednesday.

A senior official of the NBR’s Central Intelligence Cell confirmed to ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that the cell seized the lockers, numbered 751 and 753, located at the bank’s principal branch at Dilkusha in the capital Dhaka.

With these, three bank lockers of Hasina were seized with one at Pubali Bank.

The official said that the key numbers of the lockers were 196 and 200.

According to the official, the lockers have been seized to investigate possible tax evasion by Sheikh Hasina whose government was ousted on August 5 past year in a mass uprising.

‘In the interest of a broader investigation, the lockers of Sheikh Hasina have been seized. Further actions would be taken in accordance with law,’ he added.

Earlier, on September 10, the CIC had seized the Sheikh Hasina’s locker at Pubali Bank’s Motijheel corporate branch, housed in Sena Kalyan Bhaban, in the capital.

Two bank accounts of Hasina were also discovered at Pubali Bank, with one account holding a fixed deposit of Tk 12 lakh and the other containing Tk 44 lakh.

These accounts have been frozen, and any withdrawal of funds has been prohibited, according to the NBR official.

Sheikh Hasina’s assets came under scrutiny after the fall of the Awami League government.

The interim government, which assumed office after the AL fall, launched a series of investigations into allegations of tax evasion and corruption involving Hasina and her family members.
