
Rail communications between Dhaka city and several northern districts resumed early Wednesday after a halt for about twelve hours caused by the derailment of compartments of a passenger train in Rangpur.
Rail communications between Dhaka and Rangpur, Lalmonirhat, Kurigram, Nilphamari, Thakurgaon and Panchagarh districts halted after six compartments of passenger train Padmarag had derailed at Pirgachha upazila about 12:30pm Tuesday, causing serious suffering to the passengers.
A four-member probe committee, headed by Lalmonirhat divisional transportation officer Abdullah Al Mamun, has been formed to determine the cause for the derailment, Bangladesh Railway official said.
The derailment happened near the outer signal of Pirgachha railway station when a plate on the line separator was displaced.
At the time Padmarag was heading for Lalmonirhat.聽
No casualty was reported in the incident.
The derailment has caused disruptions to several northern intercity and commuter trains, including Rangpur Express, Burimari Express, Kurigram Express, Dolonchapa Express and Korotoa Express.
鈥楾he rail communication was restored on the tracks at about 1:00am on Wednesday after 12 hours of hectic efforts.
The recovery work to clear the track was delayed due to heavy rainfall, said Abu Hena Mostafa Alam, Lalmonirhat divisional railway manager.
