Shamima Sultana Maya, joint convener of the Rajshahi district coordination committee of the National Citizen Party, resigned on Tuesday, reportedly after the party鈥檚 central leadership had not addressed her written complaints.
At a press briefing at the city鈥檚 Shaheb Bazar Zero Point around 10:30am, Maya read out her resignation letter addressed to the party chief, stating she could not compromise her conscience, honesty and principles.
In August, Maya submitted a written complaint alleging that she was maligned on social media with derogatory remarks and was branded an 鈥楢wami collaborator鈥� after her photos with former Rajshahi mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and his wife were circulated.
Despite being 鈥榠nnocent鈥� she said that she received no support from the party and suffered social and professional harm.
Maya also alleged that the district and upazila committees were being controlled by the city committee, preventing district leaders from carrying out activities independently.
鈥楾he party atmosphere had become hostile and inconsistent with my values,鈥� she said.
Maya鈥檚 resignation comes against a backdrop of escalating factional conflict.
The NCP鈥檚 district and metropolitan convening committees were formed on June 18, but just a week later, on June 25, allegations surfaced that district joint coordinator Nahidul Islam Saju had kicked fellow joint coordinator Firoz Alam, sending him to hospital.
The following day, district chief convener Rashedul Islam resigned and though Nahidul was served a show-cause notice over the assault, but no action was taken.
Nahidul Islam could not be reached for comments over phone.
Rajshahi metropolitan NCP chief convener Mobasher Ali when contacted by 抖阴精品 denied allegations that his committee controlled the district body.
He claimed instead that Maya, Firoz Alam and Saiful Islam faced accusations of having Awami League links.
鈥楾wo days ago, we decided that unless the three are removed, everyone else in the district and metropolitan committees will resign altogether. A complaint is being filed with the centre. Maya resigned in advance after she had learned about our move,鈥� he said.
