A major national initiative, the Improvement of Urban Public Health Preventive Services Project has commenced its capacity-building drive with two-day orientation training for officials of Savar Pourashava.

The training, covering the period of September 16 and 18, marked the first step in a large-scale effort to strengthen urban public health systems against growing threats like dengue, pollution, and climate change, said a press release.


The project, overseen by the local government division, targets specific urban areas identified as critical: Dhaka South City Corporation, Dhaka North City Corporation, Chattogram City Corporation, and the municipalities of Savar and Tarabo. Its overarching goal is to develop systemic capacities for delivering essential preventive services.

Abul Khair Mohammad Hafizullah Khan, joint secretary of the local government division and project director of IUPHPSP, inaugurated the training.

He said that the IUPHPSP would cover around 41,770 participants througha 14 training modules under local training throughout the project period and the training would enable officials to smoothly operate project activities.

The programme was presided over by Md Abubakor Sarkar, administrator of Savar Pourashava, with Ziaur Rahman, deputy secretary of the local government division and deputy project director of IUPHPSP, attending as a special guest. A total of 40 officials from Savar Pourashava participated in the inaugural session.
