The police recovered the body of a 65-year-old woman from her rented house at Sadar upazila in Chuadanga on Monday afternoon.
The deceased, Gulshan Ara Chaman, who had no children, had been living alone for seven years at Dakshin Gorasthanpara at Sadar upazila, police officials said.
She was reportedly well until Friday, after which she went missing. Her sister, Khushi, said that she last spoke to her on September 11 when Gulshan mentioned that she was going to market.
She had a history of diabetes, high blood pressure and had previously suffered a stroke.
The police were alerted by locals after a foul smell was coming from the house, said Chuadanga Sadar police officer-in-charge Khaledur Rahman.
A police team recovered the body and sent it to Chuadanga General Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination.
Legal proceedings were underway, the OC said, adding that they were waiting for the post-mortem report to know the exact cause of her death.
