A total of 42 candidates were elected unopposed in the elections to the hall unions of Rajshahi University.

The final list of candidates for the elections to the Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union and hall unions, published on Saturday night, shows that 39 of them were elected unopposed from six halls for females and three from a hall for males.


Besides, no nominations were filed for four posts in four halls for females and the posts will remain vacant, said chief election commissioner Professor F Nazrul Islam.

According to the final candidate list, 247 candidates will contest for 23 posts in the elections to the central students’ union.

A total of 18 candidates will vie for the post of vice-president, 13 for general secretary, and 16 will run for the post of assistant general secretary.

The elections to the RUCSU and hall unions are scheduled for September 25.

Of those elected unopposed, one was elected to Mannujan Hall Union, nine to Rokeya Hall Union, three to Tapasi Rabeya Hall Union, 10 to Begum Khaleda Zia Hall Union, nine to Rahamatunnesa Hall Union, seven to July-36 Hall Union, and three to Bijoy-24 Hall Union.

Among them, 13 were elected to executive member positions and 29 others to various secretary posts.

In the hall unions’ elections, a total of 597 candidates will contest for 15 posts in each of the 17 halls, with 61 to contest for vice-president posts, 58 for general secretary positions, and 57 for assistant general secretary posts.

In the six halls for females, 16 are running for vice-president posts, 16 for general secretary positions and 15 for assistant general secretary posts.
