Two people were found dead in the custody of the Rapid Action Battalion and the Police Bureau of Investigation in Sylhet and Moulvibazar, respectively, on Sunday and Monday.

The deceased are Tanvir Chowdhury, 24, of Saradaganj village under Kashimpur upazila in Gazipur, and Mokaddus Miah, 50, of Konagaon village under Kamalganj upazila in Moulvibazar.


Of them, Tanvir was found dead in RAB custody in Sylhet on Sunday, and Mokaddus was found dead in PIB custody on Monday.

RAB-9 media officer KM Shahidul Islam said that they arrested Tanvir, wanted in a case of stabbing his wife to death, at Jaintapur in Sylhet Saturday evening and kept him in the custody of the RAB-9 headquarters in Sylhet at the night following Saturday. 

Shahidul said that the CCTV footage showed Tanvir committing suicide at about 8:30am on Sunday by hanging himself from the custody room’s ventilator with a blanket given to him for sleeping at night.

The RAB official said that the body was recovered in the presence of his relatives, the police, a doctor and local public representatives on Sunday and was sent to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination. 

The Moulvibazar superintendent of the PBI, Md Zafar Hussain, said that Makaddus, an accused in a murder case, surrendered to the police at about 8:00pm on Sunday, and the police later that night handed him over to the PBI as they were assigned to investigate the case.

‘Mokaddus committed suicide by hanging himself from the railing of a window of the custody room with his lungi early in the morning,’ he said.
