
A truck driver and his assistant were arrested along with 193 bottles of contraband drug Phensedyl in Sylhet on Friday.
The arrested are the truck driver Shubha Khan, 33, a resident of Subidpur Khanpara in Meherpur; and his helper Jamil Ahmed, 21, a resident of Uttar Kalibari under Companiganj in Sylhet.
Sylhet Metropolitan Police additional deputy commissioner for media Mohammad Saiful Islam said that acting on a tip-off, a team of Sylhet Biman Bandar police stopped a stone-loaded truck on Barshala Bypass Road in the airport area at around 12:30am and recovered the Phensedyl under the loaded-stones.
‘The truck driver and his helper were also arrested after recovering the drug smuggled in the country from India,’ the police officer said.
He said that the arrested were produced before a metropolitan magistrate court in a case filed with the Biman Bandar police station. ‘The court sent them to jail.’
