A memorandum of understanding was signed between the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority and Chittagong Port Authority on the sole operation and management of Pangaon Inland Container Terminal at the BIWTA conference room in Dhaka on Wednesday.

Through the MoU, Chittagong Port Authority will operate Pangaon Inland Container Terminal and adjacent 48.24 acres of land on lease from BIWTA in the conventional manner, said a press release.

This agreement is being executed in view of the decision of the tripartite meeting held between the Ministry of Shipping, BIWTA and CPA and the recommendations of the committee formed by the Ministry of Shipping.

According to the agreement, in the first phase, BIWTA will issue a license for a period of 10 years on the basis of annual renewal from December 1, 2025 to November 30, 2035.

The total period of the agreement, however, will be in force for 30 years.

On Wednesday, a MoU was also signed with the Bangladesh Navy for the Heavy Lift Cargo Jetty Construction Project with Backward Facilities of the Chittagong Port Authority under the chairmanship of the shipping adviser M Sakhawat Hossain in the meeting room of BIWTA.

It is to be noted that the said agreement has been signed in the wake of the government decision to implement the said project through the Bangladesh Navy as a ‘dedicated procurement’.

The project will be implemented in the Laldia-2 area and its length has been taken as 240 metres.

Shipping adviser M Sakhawat Hossain, its senior secretary Mohammad Yusuf and chairman of Chittagong Port Authority Rear Admiral SM Moniruzzaman, among others, were present at the ceremony.Â
