Cybercrime and forensic experts of the Criminal Investigation Department on Tuesday testified that voice recordings attributed to former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, in which she allegedly ordered the police to open fire on protesters during the July 2024 mass uprising, are authentic.
The CID confirmed the authenticity of separate recorded phone conversations between Sheikh Hasina and former Dhaka University vice chancellor ASM Maksud Kamal, Sheikh Hasina and former Dhaka south city mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, and Sheikh Hasina and former Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner Habibur Rahman.
The CID forensic team used voice recognition technology and digital forensic tools to analyse the recordings and compare them with verified voice samples of Hasina, Maksud Kamal, Taposh, and Habibur Rahman, according to their testimonies before the three-member International Crimes Tribunal-1.
The testimony was recorded by the Tribunal, chaired by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder, in the crimes against humanity case against Sheikh Hasina, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan, and former inspector general of police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun.
