Chuadanga General Hospital officials have said that there has been no trace of cleanliness materials and computer accessories although Tk 24 lakh had been withdrawn for the procurement.
The officials said that the Directorate General of Health Services on June 1 sanctioned Tk 20 lakh for cleanliness supplies and Tk 4 lakh for computer accessories.
They said that the hospital superintendent, Dr Bidyut Kumar Biswas, had withdrawn the money that month.
But three months later, storerooms hold little more than four cartons of disinfectant bought before the withdrawal of the money, they said.
Two members on hospital staff said that the superintendent dealt with the money and that nothing was procured with the money.
The hospital’s chief assistant Abdus Sabur said that the superintendent had overseen both the money and the procurement.
Chuadanga’s civil surgeon Dr Hadi Zia Uddin Ahmed said that the superintendent had managed the hospital’s financial activities.
Bidyut Kumar declined any explanation on how the money was spent. ‘I will tell you later. But I cannot give you any specific time frame.’
