Renowned playback singer Sabina Yasmin on Sunday was honoured by Bangladesh interim government chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at a musical event titled Sudhu Gaan Geye Parichay organised by cultural affairs ministry at National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in Dhaka.

The event also featured popular songs of Sabina Yasmin, who started her musical career at the age of six and has sung more than around 10,000 songs.


Planning and education adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud, cultural affairs adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, cabinet secretary Sheikh Abdur Rashid and culture secretary Md Mafidur Rahman attended the event, which was moderated by actor-director Afzal Hossain.

Born in 1953 to Lutfur Rahman and Mouluda Khatun, Sabina Yasmin is the youngest amongst her sisters Farida, Fowzia and Niloufer. As a child artiste Sabina sang for films, radio, television and gramophone records.

She has earned a name singing patriotic songs as well as for her contribution to playback singing.

She established her position in the music scene during the late 70s and early 80s and won the hearts of music lovers in Bangladesh, Pakistan and India.

For her contribution to the country’s music scene, Sabina Yasmin has received prestigious awards, including the Independence Award, Ekushey Padak, National Film Award and others.

Besides, the Bengal Film Journalists’ Association in India has honoured her with their Best Playback Singer Award.
